Beware of GANGPLANKS
In September 2018, ‘Mrs S’ from Dorset, a 55-year-old NHS theatre assistant, was on a cruise holiday on the ‘Celebrity Silhouette’ cruise ship. The ship had docked in Gibraltar and the claimant was disembarking the ship via a gangway. The gangway was steep, without the benefit of any carpet. The Claimant slipped and fell on the exposed metal gangway causing serious injuries to her head, back and neck.
Unfortunately, the injuries sustained in the slipping accident, caused the Claimant’s pre-existing fibromyalgia to become a lot worse, so much so she had to stop working and her mobility was impacted.
Mrs S brought, represented by Aegis Legal, brought a claim for damages against the cruise company, RCL Cruises Ltd. After denying the gangway was hazardous and after denying the accident had caused any serious injuries at all, the claim was settled in ‘Mrs S’s’ favour for £45,000.
